Illegal Immigration: Pros and Cons by Mario Garibaldi

182 Words
This is a challenging subject to write about because first and foremost, it involves individuals and families. Young and old alike. It also involves differences in cultures and behavior. It also involves right and wrong, legal and illegal issues. When writing about illegal immigration, I think it's important not to lose sight that we're dealing with people who, for various reasons, have risked putting themselves in legal jeopardy. Many of them have risked their lives in order to live the American dream.
I believe that my own legal immigrant background qualifies me to write about this topic. In the last few years, illegal immigration continues to be a controversial issue. Basically, it's a matter of millions of people entering, staying and working in the country without official permission. It's also a matter of people who initially enter the country legally and end up r overstaying or violating the terms of their visas. It's a problem where the weight of supply and demand usually bypasses the rule of law. Employers need lower cost workers and illegal workers are willing to work for lower wages.

WORDY SENTENCES: GUIDED PRACTICE

Adam Smith, founder of modern economics, proposed a theory in the eighteen century that has made him controversial. This British economist, born in Scotland and educated in England, the first complete study of political economy. The Wealth of Nations was published the same year that Americans declared their independence from England, in 1776. Smith's book directed attention to the independence of freedom, order, economic processes, and free trade laws. Although his thinking did not affect economic policies during his lifetime, its influence in the next century was considerable. History only made Smith's ideas more controversial. Say 'Adam Smith' to conservative businesspeople, those same people will smile and make a response like 'he was a good man, understood how business works' he says to liberal reformers, and the will grimace and mutter something along the lines of 'he was a evil man, sold the average citizen down the river'. These reactions are extreme , but such responses indicate the controversy aroused by Smith's ideas is alive.
